Hot and cold decisions

Advice I received as a young hothead: Make your decisions when you are cold.

Since then I have learned a useful trick: It is fine and even desirable to make your decisions while hot and fully activated. Impassioned decision making has its place.

The trick is this: Make the decision when you are hot, but act on it only when cold again.

Better even when you can cycle through these states a few times. When I have come to the same decision after being hot and cold four times, I have reached the point of action.
