I am just being honest

"I am just being honest" are words I have used in the past.

I like to believe in the distant past — and that distance is uncomfortably close.

When I used that phrase it was always (always) as a defense for hurt I felt in myself. Hurt for my intentions not being seen, for my words having unintended consequences.

Causing hurt in another.

"Just being honest" starts first with being honest with myself. Awareness of what my motivations are. Knowledge of what I wish to happen.

Then, if I am just being honest — I was never honest.
