The need to please others is at the root of all self-violence.

To please, to seem good, to be agreeable: This requires self-judgement, shame, and guilt.

You cannot please everyone. You cannot please anyone - not all the time. You will not be fully acceptable, likeable, or approved.

To continue trying continues the violence against yourself.
