Sequence of events

When small ones get hurt, I ask them to tell me what happened before. Then what happened. Then what happened after, all the way to them telling the story right now.

Asking them for the sequence of events helps them feel that more than just the hurt-moment happened. And that they are ok right now.

This works for some small ones.
Others get bored quickly, shout "I am fine!", means it, and continues with their lives.

So too, it is with the bigger ones.
